| When we are first contacted regarding a potential
trial, the first step in the process is to have a meeting with the trial
team, typically lasting about an hour or so. We prefer to have this meeting
when we are at least two months away from trial (although we are rather
familiar with "last-minute" engagements). There is no charge for
this initial consultation. The items generally covered in the meeting are
first a demo of TrialDirector and its capabilities in order to familiarize
the team with methods and possibilities for evidence display, which may
be used during the trial presentation.
From there, this generally leads to a light discussion on the facts of
the trial itself, including dates, venue, contact information, and perhaps
a case overview. We then attempt to identify any obvious conflicts in
regards to the case or scheduling issues.
Next, we begin an initial data and evidence materials assessment of the
matter at hand. This allows us to get a general understanding of what
we have to work with, and how much time we will need to prepare in order
to be ready for trial. This assessment includes identifying things such
as the condition of the exhibits (paper or electronic, Bates-stamped,
exhibit #'s assigned, etc.), whether or not deposition videos are available
and will be used, whether or not graphics will be needed, and rough quantities
of all.
Finally in this meeting, we will attempt to give a (very) rough estimate
as to what the costs may be. Where costs are prohibitive, we will attempt
to work within a partial-involvement scenario.
